Alanya Triathlon

The 22nd International Alanya Triathlon and European Cup Final was held at the weekend 06./07.10.2012. A total of 392 athletes from 30 countries participated.

Overall, the event was dominated by Russian athletes. The International Triathlon Union ITU, the Triathlon Association of Turkey and the city of Alanya hosted the competition together. The 22nd International Alanya Triathlon is considered a test run for the Triathlon European Championships in 2013 that will be held in Alanya.

The Turkish disabled triathlon athlete Kemal Ozdemir finished all stages of its category in Para-Triathlon and was rewarded with applause by the many spectators. The athletes of the Para-triathlon and the athletes, who compete in the junior category, must swim 750 meters; ride 20 km bike and 5 km running. In the category of elite the athletes must complete 1,500-meter swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running.

20th International Swimming Marathon

In this year the 20th International Swimming Marathon of Alanya was on 09.10.2012. A total of 175 athletes from 10 countries (Turkey, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Russia, Czech Republic, Ukraine, White Russia, Poland, Finland) started. The competition started at 13.00 clock on Damlatas Cleopatra beach. After a distance of 5 km, the aim was the Galip Dere beach behind the town hall.

The swimming marathon, starting this year for the 20th time, was originally created in order to animate the triathlon athletes to stay longer in Alanya. Meanwhile, the event has grown to a big annual event for Turkish athletes.

Swimming Marathon were held in different categories. In the category Elite Men Adam Glogowski from Poland won the race before Georgy Kaurov from Russia. In the category Elite Women Irina Abysova from Russia won before the Russian Daria Iluridze.

2012 Paralympics

This year's Paralympics in London were a great success for Turkish athletes. The Turkish athletes showed their best performance that they could ever muster at the Paralympics.

With 1 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals Turkish athletes got a total of ten medals; A success that could not be achieved by their able-bodied colleagues in early August.

Particularly in weightlifting the athletes were very successful in 2012. The weightlifter Nazmiye Muslu even achieved a new world record.

China is with a total of 23 meals on the 1st place of the medal count. On place 2 is Russia followed by the UK on 3rd place. Germany achieved place 8.
